What's mine say?

Sweet!

Yesterday I had a great opportunity to go and spend some time at the Iowa Speedway. Any racing fans out there? Well, I have never really had an interest in car racing, but when the chance comes by to get some VIP treatment, hey...I am up for just about anything!

We arrived just in time to sign up to ride in the PACE cars. As Frank Kimmel strolled in, we knew that we were in for a treat! After our waivers were signed, we stood in line and watched the clouds roll in and turn dark. We ended up getting pretty wet. But, after the storm blew by, it lightened up again, the track dried, and we got our chance to ride with Frank himself. What a blast---it was a total rush of adrenaline speeding up to rip around the corners of the 7/8 mile speedway. We got up over 100 (the fast times on the pre-qualifier were around 135). Frank is such a nice guy, he told us a little about how he handles the corners and seemed to really enjoy driving people around the track. We even got him to sign our hats.....do you see a race car fan in my future? Hmmmmm.....

Of course, one of the things that I knew would be fun was people watching. We saw quite a bit of things that are better left to hang on the racks in the store (if you know what I mean). Of what store, it is hard to say! Behind one of the tables by the concessions stands was a woman wearing these shoes......ouch!

And the entertainment didn't stop there. Before the race was a concert with Aaron Tippin. Here he is singing Honky-tonk Superman.

As for the race (ear plugs enabled)....what a feeling to have the cars whiz by you. We were really close (5 rows up right on the finish line). It was really cool because they had a 20 year old from good 'ol West Des Moines start the group off (he ended up in 3rd place with his debut in this series). The winner? Frank Kimmel!!!

I am sooo craving Talladega Nights right now...

I'm not much of a nascar fan, but it looks like you had a great time!

We went to one last year... my husband's company was the sponsor for a race so it was free so we figured what the hell. It was a blast! I was SO shocked how loud it was! I bet you had a blast yesterday ... great weather... Aaron Tippin in his tight jeans... good stuff!

Wow, it sounds like you really had quite the day. I think I would have been scared riding around that fast on the track! What a great opportunity though.
